Airport Car Rental Guide
Everything you need to know about renting a car at Crater Lake-Klamath Regional Airport (LMT).
About Crater Lake-Klamath Regional Airport (LMT)
Crater Lake-Klamath Regional Airport (IATA: LMT, ICAO: KLMT) is a small regional airport located approximately 6 miles south of downtown Klamath Falls. The airport serves as the closest commercial airport to Crater Lake National Park and is a gateway to Southern Oregon's outdoor recreation areas.
LMT is a compact, single-terminal facility. Commercial service is provided by United Express (operated by SkyWest Airlines) with daily flights to San Francisco (SFO) and seasonal service to other destinations. The airport also handles general aviation and military operations, as it shares facilities with Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base.
Due to the airport's small size, facilities are limited but straightforward. You won't find the overwhelming terminal layouts of larger airports -- getting from your gate to the rental car counter takes just a couple of minutes on foot.
Rental Car Counter at LMT
Enterprise Rent-A-Car
The only on-airport rental company
Enterprise operates the sole rental car counter inside the LMT terminal. The counter is located in the main terminal area near baggage claim. After collecting your luggage, you can walk directly to the Enterprise desk -- it is clearly visible from the arrival area.
Location: Inside the main terminal, near baggage claim
Vehicle pickup: In the parking area directly outside the terminal
Hours: Typically aligned with flight schedules; confirm when booking
Reservation: Strongly recommended, especially June through September
Book Early for Summer Travel
Because Enterprise is the only rental company at LMT, vehicle availability can be extremely limited during peak summer months (June through September) when Crater Lake tourism is at its highest. Book as far in advance as possible to ensure you get the vehicle type you need.
Tips for Renting at LMT Airport
Reserve Well in Advance
With only one rental provider, vehicles sell out quickly during peak season. Reserve at least 2-4 weeks before your trip in summer, and at least a week ahead during other seasons.
Choose the Right Vehicle
If heading to Crater Lake, consider an SUV or AWD vehicle, especially outside summer months. Mountain roads can have snow as late as June and as early as October. Economy cars work fine for in-town use and well-maintained highways.
Check After-Hours Policy
LMT has limited flight schedules. If your flight arrives late, confirm Enterprise's hours to ensure the counter will be open. Some flights may arrive after the rental counter closes.
Fuel Up Before Returning
There are gas stations along South 6th Street between downtown and the airport. Fill up before returning your rental to avoid refueling charges, which are typically much higher than local pump prices.
Alternative: Rent from Medford Airport (MFR)
If you need more rental company options or better pricing, Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR) is worth considering. Located about 75 miles west of Klamath Falls, MFR is a larger airport with significantly more rental car choices.
